Before you can change your habits, you first, must change your thinking.
You see, mindset is everything when it comes to weight loss- and the truth is, your mind will always believe everything that you tell it.
That’s why weight loss feels like such a daunting problem- because, more often than not, that’s how we approach it.
As women, we often dread the idea of losing weight because we believe it’s going to be a lot of work. We imagine the entire process to be painful because we’re so focused on all the foods that we ‘can’t have’ + all the exercise that ‘we have to-do’.
Changing your life by losing weight IS hard work (I’m not going to argue that), but the degree of difficulty that that work actually is- that my friend, is based entirely on your perception of it.
If you want to create the belief that weight loss is simple, you have to train your mind to think that way.
In this blog post, I’m sharing with you one of my favorite techniques to shift your mindset so that weight loss feels easier!
Weight loss is as much of a mental battle as it is a physical one. And when you conquer your mind, the body follows.
But conquering your mind is often easier said than done- and truth be told, this is where so many women get stuck.
We get stuck here because (most of us) start a weight loss plan already in a poor state of mind.
We see our weight as a problem, and we see weight loss as the solution that is going to help us ‘fix ourselves’.
We look in the mirror + pick apart what we see- thinking if only my stomach was flatter or my legs were smaller…
We become discouraged by the way our clothes fit; and we judge our appearance based off of what others look like.
Before our fitness journey has even begun- we have convinced ourselves that we are living in a state of ‘less-than’.
Maintaining positive change in your life when your mind is stuck in negative thought is nearly impossible.

So what’s the simplest way to get your mind to work for you rather than against you?
Lead with self-compassion.
Learn to be patient with your progress + act lovingly toward yourself- in the same way you would act towards a friend.
It seems counter-intuitive. After all, if we love + accept ourselves as we are, then we shouldn’t need to lose weight in the first place, right?
Here’s the thing- you can be happy in the moment + still desire change for yourself. You can love who you are + still want to lose weight!
What happens when we take a strict approach to weight loss is that the experience can feel overwhelming + stressful. We beat ourselves up for mistakes made; and we have a hard time hiding our disappointment + shame when we mess up + ‘ruin’ our progress.
And we cope with these negative emotions (typically) by indulging in the same ‘bad’ habits that have created our need to lose weight- we eat our feelings, we binge on Netflix, etc.
It’s a cycle.
But when we break the cycle by choosing self-compassion over self-control, we find that the weight loss process is more enjoyable.
When we choose to exercise in ways that supports our body + naturally energizes us, we seek out more opportunities to do it.
When we eat foods that feel wholesome + sustaining, we are more apt to continue those healthy eating patterns.
And when we engage in thoughts that nourish our mind, we feel encouraged to keep practicing them.

I will admit- being intentional with your mindset is not a primary focus of most popular diet plans these days; but it’s definitely worth it for you to devote a little time + attention toward developing a healthy mindset around weight loss.
