Losing weight is a process- and a frustrating one at that.
For most women, weight loss comes in spurts. At times you’re super motivated to workout and eat healthy- you can turn down junk food with ease, never feeling the least bit deprived.
Other times you can’t seem to get in the flow of things no matter how hard you try.
You become bored with your workout plan + often skip the gym altogether. You find it difficult to control your cravings + over-indulge way more often than you should.
All too easily your old habits creep back into place + you can’t help but feel as though you are right back at where you started.
This continuous losing, gaining, losing again cycle that you find yourself stuck in is quite literally a dieting roller coaster.

To be honest, it’s not a pleasant ride + it leaves most of us wondering, how the heck do we get off?
In this blog post, I’m sharing with you 3 secrets to getting off the diet roller coaster for good so you can lose weight while still enjoying life!
If you’re like me, you’ve probably gained + lost 500 pounds in your lifetime- always the same 15 to 20 pounds at a time… which means, you’ve successfully lost weight in the past.
The problem, however, is that you’ve never kept it off.
But don’t lose hope yet because healthy, sustainable weight loss IS possible. With just a few minor adjustments to your weight loss approach, you can experience the kind of lasting results you’ve always wanted from a fitness plan.
Follow these 3 steps below to not only lose weight but to lose it for good!
Step 1: Give Up the ‘All or Nothing’ Mentality
It’s interesting- we allow ourselves to be beginners at almost everything else but when it comes to fitness we expect perfection.
That’s why all it takes is one unplanned indulgence to make us feel like we’ve failed at this whole dieting thing.
But I’m going to let you in on a little secret: success is the result of consistency in the long-term, not perfection in the short-term.
When you come to understand that no single decision within your fitness journey is powerful enough to derail your weight loss progress- that’s where the magic happens.
It’s true- not one missed meal, unplanned indulgence or skipped workout can knock you off track.
So extend yourself grace + push forward despite any missteps you make take along the way!
Yes, setbacks and failures in fitness are unpleasant; however they are also opportunities. Opportunities to start over, to begin again; and this time with a little more perspective, a little more knowledge, and a lot more inspiration.
Remember, the only mistake you could possibly make with your weight loss is the decision to give up.
Step 2: Stop Relying on Willpower to Get You Through
This may be an unpopular opinion, but I’m going to tell you that willpower doesn’t work; and if you’re relying on willpower alone to get you to your fitness goals- you’re going to have a difficult time.
You see, the most productive people start with purpose.
That’s right- goals may guide us but purpose is what DRIVES us. And that’s where so many of us get this fitness thing wrong.
We believe that setting the ‘right’ fitness goal will pull us in the direction that we’re wanting to go.
We decide that we want to be ten pounds lighter. We want to feel more confident in a bathing suit. We want to wake up with energy instead of relying on coffee + energy drinks to get us through our day.
We believe that ‘wanting’ something is enough motivation to achieve it.
But here’s the truth- that desire only works in the short-term!

We can talk ourselves out of wanting something as easily as we can talk ourselves into it. And when challenges arise- that’s exactly what we do.
When we’re too tired to workout we convince ourselves that’s it’s not important. When we’re too lazy to prepare a healthy meal we tell ourselves fast-food will do.
Without purpose, my friend, every action we take is pointless.
The magic to achieving success with your fitness goals comes with discovering your WHY-POWER.
Here’s the deal, when we have a ‘why’ behind the things that we do, we don’t question the action that we need to take, we don’t make excuses for when things get tough, we don’t settle for anything less- because we can see beyond the mundane actions we’re performing + we can make sense of it all.
Having a WHY behind your fitness goals gives them purpose, and purpose is what connects us to the bigger picture at hand. Purpose creates meaning. And finding your purpose- there’s power in that.
So ask yourself why you’re embarking on this fitness journey (go deep with this question!) and remind yourself of that reason every time you feel like giving up.
Step 3: Focus on the PROCESS, not the end RESULT
Here’s the thing, most of us are in such a hurry to lose weight because we want to feel better about ourselves. We believe that weight loss is the solution that will ‘fix’ us- so all we can focus on is losing weight fast.
We’re willing to endure a few painful weeks of brutal workouts + bland salads because we view the fitness process as temporary; we tend to think that once we get to our goal weight, we can lighten up on the exercise + healthy eating.
The truth is, temporary action can only give you temporary results.
If lasting weight loss is what you’re after, you have to make your fitness routine a lifestyle change. And the key to that is to find what you love!
Seek out activities that get you excited to move! Think outside the box- not all workouts take place in the gym. Play around with different styles of eating + see which ones help you feel nourished + energized.
When you find things you enjoy, you’ll find that you’ll intentionally seek out more opportunities to do those things!
There’s no one-size-fits all solution when it comes to weight loss. It’s your job to find what works best for you and for your lifestyle- when you do that, the results take care of themselves!
