6 Reasons Why You're NOT Losing Weight to start living healthier today!

With so many different diet plans and workout programs available today, it can be a little bit confusing knowing which plan is the right plan for you.

Choosing to do either Cross Fit or cardio, weight lifting or yoga, running or cycling- can feel overwhelming- because the last thing you want to do is make the wrong decision.

You want a fitness plan that works- not one that leaves you frustrated + annoyed because you’re not seeing results.

Now, in full disclosure, the right workout program for you will depend on your health + fitness goals, your current lifestyle, and your physical abilities BUT there is one thing that the best fat loss workouts have in common…

You see, whether you’re trying to lose weight, gain lean muscle or increase your overall strength, you’ll see better results when you incorporate resistance training into your workouts.

In this blog post, I’m sharing with you 5 Ways Women Benefit from Adding Strength Training in their Fitness Routines.

Most women hear the term “weight lifting” and their minds flood with images of big, muscular men strutting across a bodybuilding stage as they flex before a large crowd.

It’s often because of this mental picture that women fear the idea of weightlifting; after all, women don’t typically share the same desire as men to put on bulky muscle.

But fear not- because the truth is, women produce a mere fraction of the testosterone (the natural muscle-building hormone) that men do. And without the use of steroids or other figure-enhancing substances, women are incapable of naturally putting on the same bulky muscle as men.

Now, with that being said there are some real benefits to weightlifting that every woman should know about- I’m sharing the Top 5 below:

Benefit #1 of Weight Lifting: Everyday Life Becomes Easier

We tend to take for granted the day-to-day parts of life that require strength, but nearly everything we do- from walking up the stairs to lifting groceries out of the car to picking up little ones (both human babies + fur babies) from off the floor- is a weight-bearing activity.

When we work to build muscle, we find that daily chores require less effort.

Benefit #2 of Weight Lifting: Promotes Long Term Fat Loss

Strength training can help turn your body into a fat-burning machine.

Yep, it’s true- a regular strength training program increases your LEAN body mass, allowing you to burn calories (even at rest) more efficiently (i.e. faster metabolism) which can result in healthy weight loss.

And while pound for pound, muscle and fat weigh the same- muscle tissue is considerably more dense and thus takes up considerable less space. So even at the same weight, your body will be appear tighter + more toned, giving the allusion of greater weight loss!

Benefit #3 of Weight Lifting: Fights Osteoporosis

Living a sedentary lifestyle (you know, all those hours you spend sitting in the office) means that we gradually becoming weaker over time.

Aging doesn’t help the process. Research shows that as early as age 30 we can start losing as much as 3 to 5 percent of lean muscle mass per year.

Building muscle helps reverse engineer this process.

Strength training over a period of time helps prevent bone loss (and may even help build new bone). This is an obvious benefit- especially for older women who are more at risk for health conditions like osteoporosis.

Benefit #4 of Weight Lifting: Boosts Confidence

You’ve likely heard of a “runner’s high” before, but did you know that strength training has similar mood-enhancing benefits?

Like with cardio, weightlifting can trigger the release of endorphins, allowing us to feel happier + more content.

New research also points to a connection between weight lifting and reduced anxiety.

Of course, the confidence boost you get from knowing you can lift more weight than you previously were able to- that in my opinion, is reason enough to add some strength training into your fat loss workouts.

Benefit #5 of Weight Lifting: Prevents Injury

Weight lifting obviously improves the strength of your muscles, but did you know that it also helps strengthen your tendons + ligaments?

With greater joint integrity, you’ll experience benefits like reduced inflammation + diminished pain- making everyday life easier to handle!

  1. Amen! I have the same views on weight training for women.

My experience with how I got into it is MUCH like yours. Dieting down to almost underweight status and realizing I had no curves was not a great sight. Enter weight lifting, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

    Great read!
